A no-nonsense trainer with 16 years of experience, multiple industries, and still allergic to fluff. She’s the trainer who turns chaos into clarity (and bad English into mildly acceptable English).
Off the clock, she travels, reads, and paints… mostly to stay sane after hearing “revert back” one too many times.
Wisdom from our Writing Mentor
What's the most valuable thing you learned about writing that you didn't learn in a classroom, something that only came from actually doing the work?
You have to create your own process of writing. You can start with the standard process like research, writing, editing but you need to experiment on what works best for you. I usually edit my writing the next day so it gives me a fresh perspective and I am able to cut out the fluff quite easily. I follow the principle: Write Drunk, Edit Sober.
What's the most common thinking mistake beginner writers make, not grammar, not spelling, but the way they approach the work?
They have a tendency to copy-paste thoughts from reference material. They almost never think of approaching a written piece by putting themselves in the shoes of the target readers. If I were using this product, what would be my reason? This kind of empathy makes all the difference.
